Self-discipline is the secret to success in any endeavor.

If you want to be really good at something, you must focus your time and energy, sacrificing more immediately pleasurable pursuits.

However, in order to do that, you actually have two jobs. One job is the cultivation of your desired skill or ability. The other is cultivating self-discipline. Unfortunately, there’s no magic “Discipline Switch” you can flip to activate your dreams.

Practicing discipline takes discipline!

The good news is that every disciplined person you’ve ever known or heard of had to develop that trait, just like you. No one is exempt. That means that with a few insights and some practice, you too can become a “disciplined person.”

Here are 3 simple habits of highly disciplined people that you can start practicing today…

1. Remove Your Temptations
Accomplishing something new is hard enough as it is. Why sabotage yourself from the outset? To set yourself up for greater success, create an optimum environment for achievement. Silence your phone, throw out the junk food, set your alarm, plan ahead, and eliminate distractions. Willpower takes a lot of energy. Set yourself up to not rely on will, but preparedness, so as to make success as easy as possible.

2. Take Care of Yourself
Self-discipline takes brainpower and physical stamina. It’s hard to do the right thing when you’re distracted by hunger or exhaustion, so high-achievers make rest and nutrition a priority. Eat clean, stay hydrated, and sleep well, and you’ll find more fortitude in your daily endeavors.

3. Micro-Achieve
“By the inch, it’s a cinch, but by the yard it’s hard.” Highly disciplined people understand that big achievements are made up of small achievements, so they set mini-goals, and celebrate their wins when they accomplish them. Plus, achieving immediate, short-term goals boost happiness and motivation.

By following these simple practices, you can achieve massive success in a relatively short amount of time.
